History of Sildenafil Citrate
Sildenafil citrate is what we all know as
Viagra. It is the most popular treatment for impotency among
men. The drug has a side effect for a long-lasting erection in
men; yes, the erection was a side effect for the original
function of the drug. The drug was first meant to treat angina
and hypertension, but the researchers saw the potential of the
side effect to be marketed to the public.
Instead of being a drug treatment for
angina, they marketed it as a treatment for erectile
dysfunction. This is the first drug for impotency that is
approved and acknowledge by the Food and Drug Administration.
It was a hit with the men the first few years it went out,
having annual sales that exceeded $1 billion on its first few
years. Though there are other drugs that address erectile
dysfunction in the market today, Sildenafil citrate still
remains to be the drug of choice for men. |
